BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
Bosnia and Herzegovina is often simply referred to as Bosnia. It lies on the Adriatic Coast of the Balkans with Serbia, Montenegro, and Croatia neighboring this formerly war-torn country.
The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina is Sarajevo and this lovely country is full of medieval villages, and the influences of the very many tribes, armies, and empires that have conquered parts of the country over the centuries.
The twentieth century was a tumultuous period for the people of the Balkans. Bosnia and Herzegovina was a part of Yugoslavia under the control of the USSR until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. This was followed by the breaking up of Yugoslavia and the Balkans War of 1992-1995.
Today peace and tourists have returned to this beautiful country.
